Freely Grown – Paint the Abundance of Nature!

Freely Grown is an online art course about painting flowers so that they look like they have grown freely.
We will first paint with watercolors and then finish the details with colored pencils.

I enjoyed this class and found it inspiring. I like that you guide us to be free and yet offer us skills with reasons for using them. For me this is a lovely balance between different aspects of who we are as creative beings.

Part 1 – Watercolors

It’s said that to walk in nature is to witness a thousand miracles. These miracles can be born freely, almost accidentally on paper, forming a mesh of colors and shapes. If you look at a flower bed or a meadow, you don’t exactly know where one flower begins and another continues, and the sunlight can create all kinds of reflections.

In Freely Grown, we don’t arrange flowers in a vase, but let them be born and grow freely in their natural landscape. You will learn how to start, what to change, and what to leave as is, to create the natural impression.

Part 2 – Colored Pencils

When painting freely without preconceptions, we learn to see as much as paint. Sometimes the found flower is a little too grey or the stem too clumsy. With colored pencils, you can do the finishing touches in a relaxed way – easily brighten the colors, quickly add elegant lines, and have fun drawing interesting patterns.

It’s said that if you look deep into nature, you will understand everything better. At Freely Grown, we go deep into one project that enables you to do many more. Freely Grown is not about copying, but about creating beauty from natural randomness. You can use the instructions over and over again and always create a different kind of flower painting.

Part 3 – More Inspiration

Every project has some challenges and every painter is a little different too.

In Part 3, Paivi shares more examples and tips on how to keep the inspiration going.

You will need smooth watercolor paper, watercolors, a few brushes – one flat, one round, and one narrow – and colored pencils.

Deep Dive to Painting Flowers without Photos

Freely Grown is based on one process that can be repeated several times. You will get detailed instructions on the principles and little tips and tricks that boost the natural look. The written instructions are on a general level and the videos go into details.

The link to the downloadable course material (written instructions with links to the videos) will be sent to you right after the purchase. The written document has 17 pages. Eight carefully edited inspiring videos guide you through the process and give tips not only about techniques but also about what to think, how to look, and how to expand your artistic expression. Freely Grown has about 2 hours of video content.
