I think one of the greatest satisfaction is to create something that expresses your personal taste and values. One of the key moments on my artistic path was to realize that the aesthetics and the expression that I want to pursue are not shown in those art journaling books. However, the sense of belonging in the art journaling genre is amazing. When walking on the own path, loneliness can surprise sometimes.

Hi Päivi!
This is a subject so close to my heart! I belong to a number of FaceBook groups whose subject is mixed media journals and I long to join in. However, my attempts at this technique are never satisfying. I have done a number of projects in free classes too, but in only a few have I come close…
I think that your journal pages are stunning and that you could easily succeed at what you do NOT want to be seen as. Also, I understand your closeness to your little crayon friends and why they retain such usefulness! But I’m glad that you have found your ‘true’ calling and how important that must be.
I am not well at the moment, so this is a perfect day to start a messy page with all these imaginative new schemes. (Drawn images from magazines–what a marvelous concept!)

Wonderful! I still think while mixed media might not be on the same level as high art, experimenting with it frees the mind and introduces the unexpected that happens with the reaction between the different materials. It’s like rope jumping for boxers, it’s not their actual performance but it helps build their abilities… I’m all for extending our range of creativity in all directions. You already have of course. I also like the idea of stretching the use of a single medium and discovering what it can do, will try that too!
