Peony and Parakeet

Summer Greetings and Summer Sale!

Light Chaser, an acrylic painting by Paivi Eerola from Peony and Parakeet

This painting is called “Light Chaser.” We Finnish are all light chasers to some extent. Winters in Finland are very dark. The darkness combined with cold impacts the mood. For tourists, freezing wind with all shades of black can be an exotic experience, but for us who have to endure it for months, it’s agony.  In Helsinki area where I live, we sometimes get very little snow, so it’s even darker than further up.

So when the summer comes, it’s a welcomed relief, and we are pampered with light. Thereäs daylight almost around the clock. It depends a bit how far north you live, but here in the south, the sunrise was at 4 AM and the sunset at 11 PM. And in addition to that, the weather is warm, flowers are blooming, and everything is lovely.

I also want to mention Finnish strawberries, very sweet and delicious. If you ever come to Finland, make sure that you will taste them!

Summer Break

I haven’t taken a break from weekly blogging for years. I love my work and want to put most of my energy into it. However, this year I have a summer class Watercolor Journey, and we also have a big garden renovation going on. And to be honest, it’s time to live a little too. So I have decided to take a short break from blogging, three weeks.

To make sure that you keep on creating, I have a summer sale!

From today to July 29th, all self-study classes are 20 % off. You will see the reduced price when you go to pay for the class. >> Shop here!

Thank you and see you in August!

Come Paint Live with Me!

Facebook live on watercolors tomorrow June 28, 2018, 5 PM BST (London), 9 AM PDT (San Francisco)

To celebrate the new upcoming class Watercolor Journey, I am going to do one of the scariest things I know: painting live online! Is it even possible for a human being?! Well, I have to try that!

Watercolor art journal by Paivi Eerola from Peony and Parakeet

Join me for a Facebook live session on Thursday, June 28, 5 PM BST (London), 9 AM PDT (San Francisco). I am planning to record a brief session where you see my scary face first and then another session where the camera shows my hand. I will paint with watercolors, maybe bring your set and paint along with me?

Here’s what to do:

1) Like my Facebook page.
2) Pick a small piece of watercolor paper, your watercolor set, some brushes, and water.
3) Go to the Facebook page once the session begins!

Hoping to see you there!

New Class: Watercolor Journey!

Resort of Imagination. A watercolor painting by Paivi Eerola from Peony and Parakeet. See her class Watercolor Journey for expressive watercolor techniques!

I am excited to launch a new class called Watercolor Journey!  It will start on July 1st but do sign up now because there’s an early-bird sale going on!

Why This Watercolor Class?

This watercolor class is especially for you who admires traditional watercolor paintings but who wants to be more loose and contemporary in your approach. If you find sketching, perspective painting, careful shadowing and copying boring, but want to learn tips and tricks to let watercolors do half the work for you, you don’t want to miss this class! Watch the video and see more information here!

Art Community for July-September Included!

This watercolor class automatically includes the access to my art community Bloom and Fly as well. In addition to the course material, you will also get access to the lively Facebook group with weekly feedback events, and monthly live sessions.

Live Broadcasts Begin – Come to Meet Me Next Week!

Paivi Eerola broadcasting live from her studio. Join her live broadcasts about creating art and growing as an artist!
It has been my dream for a long time, and now it’s time to do it: I will begin broadcasting live blog posts!

Live Broadcasts – Artists’ Coffee Breaks

Think of these as artists’ coffee breaks for inspiration! I intend to keep the broadcasts short and then publish the recording on my blog. The weekly blog posts will continue, but many of them will be recordings of these live broadcasts.

My idea about the content is similar to the blog so far: have a wide variety of narrow topics related to my recent art discoveries and offerings. A new thing that live broadcasts enable is that I can invite other artists to talk about art so there will be interviews too!

Next Week’s Topic: Creating Small-Sized Art

The topic for the first live broadcast is creating small-sized art and how to use that to strengthen you as an artist. I will show some of my small drawings and paintings and share the enthusiasm and new perspectives that they have given to me.

The broadcast will take place on April 25, 11 AM in Finland.
It’s 9 AM in London, Europe
6 PM  in Sydney, Australia
8 PM in Wellington, New Zealand

I know it’s a bad time for you who live in the USA or Canada (1 AM PDT / 4 AM EDT) but the weekday and the time will vary. You can watch the replay so you won’t miss anything! I will post the recording here on my blog after the live session.

Come to Meet Me Live on April 25!

On Wednesday next week, I will broadcast at Crowdcast where you can register for free. You can also chat with other participants when watching me – it’s just like having a coffee break together!
